ESTA People

Prior to 1969, Australia did not have a national number for emergency services; the police, fire and ambulance services possessed many phone numbers, one for each local unit.

ESTA People

While we are supported by the best technology, ESTA is very much a people driven service.

Our call-takers and dispatchers are deeply committed to the community they serve and are among the most dedicated and highly skilled in their field. They, along with our support office staff, help ensure that all Victorians have access to the very best emergency services in an ever changing environment – an environment where population growth and demographic change has been significant and where climate change brings more intense fires, increased storm and flood activity and heatwaves.

ESTA’s call-taking and dispatch services are delivered from three communications centres located at Ballarat, Tally-Ho in Burwood East and World Trade Centre at Docklands. ESTA's Support Office is based together with the Communications Centre in Burwood East.

For a career with ESTA, visit our People and Careers section.  We list vacancies here and you can find more information on the criteria needed to become a call-taker or dispatcher.
