Assessment Types

Learner Guide Assessments

Self paced completion of Learner Guide Assessment activities to be completed during the classroom training schedule

Activities will be reviewed by a workplace trainer upon completion

Theory assessments

On line, closed book, competency based examinations based on the theory component of the course

Undertaken during the classroom training schedule

Successful completion requires a pass mark of more than 90 per cent (all ESO groups)

Where a learner does not meet the specified level, they will be provided with the opportunity to undertake the assessment (or relevant parts of the assessment as defined by the assessor) again

Successful completion of each assessment is required prior to moving on to the next module of learning

Practical/scenario assessments

Scenario based assessments simulating the live operational environment

Undertaken during the classroom training schedule

Successful completion requires the learner to demonstrate the required practical application of standard operating procedures, workflows and the applicable agency specific programs in a simulated environment

Areas of deficiency determined by the workplace assessor will be addressed with further training and assessment

Successful completion is required prior to moving into the on the job/mentoring phase of the training program

On-the-job assessments

An assessment of the learners’ performance in the live operational environment.

Undertaken during the on the job/mentoring phase of the training program

Successful completion requires the learner to demonstrate the required practical application of standard operating procedures, workflows and the applicable agency specific programs in the live operational environment

Areas of deficiency determined by the workplace assessor will be addressed with further training and assessment

On successful completion of the on-the-job assessment the learner will be awarded and issued with the relevant course certificate

Flexible delivery of the assessments can be arranged where the learner requires an alternative method of delivery due to language, literacy or numeracy issues, or any other relevant factor that may hinder the assessment process

All assessments carried out at ESTA will be conducted by assessors who have successfully completed the assessment subjects from the Training and Education Training Package (TAE) or hold a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110)
