Course Durations

Ambulance

  • Commence employment as a call-taker.
  • The call-taking course is six (6) months in duration. Training is divided into five (5) weeks “off shift”, which is delivered as classroom-based learning.
  • Learners then move into a mentoring (4-6 weeks) & consolidation phase where they will be supported to gain competence in the required skills.
  • Qualified, competent, and experienced call-takers will be eligible to progress to dispatcher training.
  • Dispatcher training is 12 months in duration. Training is divided into five (5) weeks “off shift” plus seven (7) weeks “on shift”. Learners then consolidate their skills on crew.

Regional Fire Service

  • Commence employment as a call-taker.
  • The call-taking course is six (6) months in duration. Call-taking consists of five (5) weeks “off shift” training in the classroom. “On-shift” mentoring & consolidation then commences, where call takers will be supported to gain competence in the required skills.
  • Qualified, competent, and experienced call-takers will be eligible to apply for dispatcher training.
  • Dispatcher training is 12 months in duration. Training is divided into four (4) weeks “off shift” plus two (2) weeks “on shift”. Learners then consolidate their skills on crew.

Metropolitan Fire Service

  • Commence employment as a call-taker.
  • The call-taking course is six (6) months in duration. Call-taking consists of five (5) weeks “off shift” training in the classroom. “On-shift” mentoring & consolidation then commences, where call takers will be supported to gain competence in the required skills.
  • Qualified competent and experience call-takers will be eligible to progress to dispatcher training.
  • Dispatcher training is 12 months in duration. Training is divided into eight (8) weeks “off shift” plus five (5) weeks “on shift”. Learners then consolidate their skills on crew.

Victoria Police/State Emergency Service

  • Commence employment as a call-taker.
  • The call-taking course is six (6) months in duration. Training is divided into four (4) weeks “off shift” classroom-based learning.
  • Learners then move into a mentoring (4-6 weeks) & consolidation phase where they will be supported to gain competence in the required skills.
