Career opportunities and pathways

At ESTA, we offer a range of opportunities dedicated to a specialist career in emergency communications and management including roles that supports the technology and/or infrastructure required to help our people and achieve our vision to become a high performing team.  Here is a highlight of some of our roles and pathway options available:

  • Call-takers receive and process all emergency calls from the public and other agencies. The purpose of the role is to quickly and accurately process calls for fire, police, ambulance and SES services so that an appropriate response can be provided as effectively as possible.   • Dispatchers facilitate the timely and efficient allocation of resources to emergency events using information provided by a call-taker.  Opportunities are open only to internal people who are experience call-takers to become a career dispatcher. 
  • Mentors and workplace trainer opportunities are available to our people with natural abilities in coaching people to be and achieve their very best.  Our dedicated mentors and workplace trainers are passionate about their work and supporting their peers to become high performers.  
  • Operational people leadership pathways are available to high performing call-takers and dispatchers with strong leadership capabilities.  ESTA invests heavily in developing the capability of its current and future leaders through delivery of a range of leadership development programs.  There are a number of career pathways which are open to our internal people who hold leadership capabilities including roles such as Assistant Team Leaders, Team Leaders, and Assistant Centre Manager roles.  

ESTA’s Support Office is critical to providing services that enable our call-taking and dispatch operation to function efficiently and effectively.  There are many opportunities for a career in our Support Office for non-operational people.  These include finance and commercial services, strategy and delivery, people & culture, project management, and information and technology just to name a few.
