A family’s life-saving call

A family’s life-saving call

A family has reunited with the ESTA call-taker who helped save a father’s life after he suffered a cardiac arrest in May this year.

One moment, the family was sitting around the table at a family event, laughing at a joke and the next moment, Dominic had slumped over and hit his head on the concrete. Within seconds, Dominic’s nephew, Charlie, dialed triple zero and the family was connected with ESTA call-taker, Rhiannon.

Rhiannon quickly realised that CPR was required and guided the family through the process as Charlie and Dominic’s daughter, Nancy took turns doing CPR compressions.

The family says that everyone was in the right spot at the right time. Dominic was initially too tired to go to the family event but eventually decided to attend, which may have saved his life. Rather than being home alone, he was with his family which made the life-saving call and gave CPR.

Left to right: Nancy, Rhiannon, Dominic and Charlie.

Thanks to the actions of Charlie, Nancy, Rhiannon, the attending paramedics and hospital staff, Dominic has since made a strong recovery with no signs of brain injury and was able to walk soon after the incident.

Nancy says that there are no words to articulate how truly grateful the family is to have had Rhiannon on the other end of the triple zero call that day.

“We could not have kept it together without you. You were amazing and we sincerely appreciate all of your life-saving advice. My dad is still alive because of you. You truly are a hero and I will remember you and be thankful for you every day.”
