ESTA's annual Junior Triple Zero Hero Awards was held on Thursday 2 June, with 29 young heroes being presented with awards. Junior Triple Zero Heroes are nominated throughout the year by the ESTA operators who take their calls. This year's heroes ranged from four to 15 years old and came from all over Victoria.
The Junior Triple Zero Heroes awards attracted significant media attention. Channel Seven, Nine and Ten news all covered the event on that night's bulletin and featured some of the heroes and the ESTA operators, who the children were looking forward to meeting.
One of the heroes, eight-year-old Charlette, followed the instructions of the ESTA operator, Nick who answered her call when she discovered her mother who was not breathing. Nick instructed Charlette through performing life-saving CPR on her mum until paramedics arrived.
